Floyd Howard, Jr. Obituary

Floyd Lee Howard , Jr. was born on April 11. 1961 in Pine Bluff, Arkansas to Margaret and Floyd L. Howard Sr. He accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior and was baptized. Our dear Floyd transitioned from this earthly home to his heavenly home on Tuesday, December 12, 2023.

Floyd was both raised and educated in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, where he graduated from Dollarway High School in 1980. He served in the United States Navy from 1980 to 1988. He attended the University of San Diego State during his time in the military. He returned to his hometown in 1984, where he married his first love, Wanda Faye Ficklin, on July 21, 1984. They then moved to Corpus Christi, Texas, where he was stationed for two years. After discharging from the Navy in 1988, he returned to his hometown, Pine Bluff. To know Floyd was to know his affinity for music, and its existence as his life force. Early on, he fearlessly participated in all his high school and local talent shows, for which was known to sing joyfully with his whole heart. Later, he began a solid DJ career, hosting parties, nightclubs, and various shows. Through this, he became professionally known as DJ World, the locally renowned disc jockey who had traveled all over the world during his military tenure. That name would become very popular in his hometown, leading him to amass one of the largest and greatest collections of music and equipment, his prized possessions. This collection, in turn, would lead him to become affectionately known as the “CD man” or “music man.” Everyone knew that if one needed a mixed CD for any occasion, DJ World had you more than covered. His ability to instantaneously connect with people became one of his most defining attributes, as he never met a stranger if the conversation topic was music. Floyd would not only put you on to the classic, latest, and greatest music, but he would also teach you the history behind it. The only thing that could separate him from his love for music was death itself.

Until his untimely death, Floyd spent his days working at Fiocchi of America, located in Little Rock, Arkansas. During his down time, he and his girlfriend, Peggy, frequented local thrift stores and their favorite Chinese restaurant, where they were basically local celebrities. He made spending time with and checking on his grandchildren and children a priority. He consistently called them and visited them, delivering gifts and their favorite foods and drinks, as spoiling them was his favorite thing to do. He had another grandson on the way, whom he was excitedly looking forward to meeting and spoiling as well.

Floyd was preceded in death by his parents, Margaret Wiley Howard and Floyd L. Howard, Sr.; four siblings, Stanley D. Howard, Carolyn D. Howard (Walker), Thurman L. Atkins,
and Kenneth L. Howard.

He leaves to cherish his memory seven wonderful children, Marquis D. Dixon, Katrina D. Howard, Floyd L. Howard III, Phillip L. Howard, Tiffany L. Howard, Jason N. Howard (LaStacia), and Rayla T.
Howard; two beautiful grandchildren, Cassius S. Presley and Iman E. Presley; a longtime companion, Peggy Tate; two adored sisters, Carrie D. Howard Renter and Stacy D. Howard Parchel, one treasured brother, Jessie L. Williams, and a host of beloved cousins, nephews, nieces, and friends.
